Hot Tub Filters

Hot Tub Filters

When you use your spa the filter absorbs all of the body oils and debris that are left behind when you exit the spa. Over time the filter can become dirty and clogged, causing your pump to work harder and reduce the water circulation. After approximately 6 months of usage your filter should be replaced with a new one to keep your spa running in pristine shape. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of filter types on the market, but here are a few tips to determine which filter you have.

  1. Check the spa manual to see if the filter model is identified. Currently, there are three big filter manufacturers on the market: FILBUR, PLEATCO, and UNICEL. These three manufacturers each have their own unique model numbers that sometimes make it difficult to determine which filter you have. Luckily these filters are interchangeable, so a UNICEL#: 6CH-940 can be replaced with a PLEATCO#: PWW 50. At the Canadian Spa Company we try to keep our filters standard to make it a very simple task for you to replace them.
  2. Without a model number, specific measurements may need to be made to make an accurate replacement. Measure and record the outside diameter, the length of the filter, and the inside diameter. NOTE: When measuring the length, a more accurate measurement is made by measuring through the centre of the filter (if possible).
  3. Contact us for information regarding filter replacement.

Be sure to check your filter often in case it needs to be replaced. Prolonged use of a dirty/clogged filter can cause long lasting damage to your spa equipment and create problems over time.

Microban Antibacterial Filtration

Microban Antibacterial Protection

Microban filters with silver ion* provide an added level of defence that keeps your filter cleaner between cleanings. Our new filters are made in the USA by Reemay® with Microban® antimicrobial protection the most advanced media available to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mould and fungi that can cause fouling of the filter cartridge.

Our filters include Microban incorporated within the filter pleats. This way you know you’re getting the benefit of continuous, durable and effective antimicrobial protection for the useful lifetime of your spa filter.

Silver Ion
Silver Ion is infused into the grey plastic of the Microban filter. The Silver ions can disinfect water so that micro-organisms like bacteria cannot cause disease. Silver ions act in similar ways to chlorine, but do not have the chlorine odour and are not chemical based. This means they do not usually bother people with sensitive skin the way chlorine does. While chlorine eventually fades away, silver ions remain active as long as they are present in the water.

Changing your hot tub filter

Your hot tub filter is an important part in keeping your hot tub clean, and should be replaced every 4 – 6 months. Finding a replacement model is fairly simple, and once you have the new one, simply remove the previous one from the filter housing and place the new one in. Not that you will need to turn off the power to the spa (from the breaker) if it is in a filter cycle otherwise the suction inside the filter housing will be too strong to lift out the previous filter.

* Using silver as an antimicrobial has been used throughout history for its antimicrobial properties. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Chinese used silver for food and water storage, utensils and drinking vessels. The Microban® portfolio of antimicrobial silver technologies includes a new line of third generation silver-based technologies which are more efficient, cost effective and will help keep your products cleaner and fresher for longer. Using silver as an
antimicrobial agent can protect products from deterioration and will help prevent the growth of stain and odour causing bacteria.
